Anna Benson has been riding and drawing horses since she was a small child. In 2003 she graduated from John Moores University with a degree in Fine Art. During her final year she concentrated on painting racehorses. The paintings for her degree show focused on the different aspects of steeple chasing and featured four six foot x five foot acrylic canvases, two of which were later exhibited at Aintree Racecourse during the 2004 Grand National.

In 2005 Anna received a commission for the new Grandstand at Aintree Racecourse. The commission comprised of two twelve foot by six foot paintings and one sixteen foot by eight foot painting. The large scale paintings (acrylic on canvas) were inspired by the skill and bravery of the horses and jockeys as they took on the formidable fences of the famous Grand National course. The paintings celebrate the glory of steeple chasing, and the excitement of this unique race. They are displayed at Aintree’s new Equestrian Centre

As well depicting racing scenes Anna is also fascinated by nature and the historical narrative of landscape. Her paintings primarily concentrate on depicting a wide range of images directly inspired by both the natural world and the environment

For commissions or enquiries please do not hesitate to contact Anna.
