Tried and tested: Miscellaneous small sketchbooks. I have a whole host of smaller sketchbooks, ranging from pocket sized that will fit in my camera bag to A4 (ish). I started using toned sketchbook for life drawing as they allow me to add highlights when I am working in coloured pencil. I like Fabre-Castellated Polychromos pencils in Strathmore toned tan sketchbooks. They do them in grey as well, and they take ink quite nicely. I have also tried Hahnemühle Cappuccino books, also a nice paper to work on, but I found it was best for dry media as ink tended to penetrate it. The yellowish toned book is a Moleskine, with very smooth paper, great for quick sketches. The white one is a Paperblanks book, good for both pencil and ink.

‘Ready, Steady, Go’ silkscreen. One of a body of work that was awarded the Cuneo Medal.
