Susan Merrill
Susan cannot boast any formal art education but this has not stopped her drawing and painting from the day she could hold a crayon. Inspired by the beauty of horses The Society of Equestrian Artists was tailor made for her. She makes good use of the Summer School and workshops they organise, making good friendships along the way.
Susan has a good working knowledge of how the horse operates and has owned her own horses without a break for fifty five years. After becoming a regular Bobby in the Metropolitan Police Force she joined the Mounted Branch when in her thirties, holding the accolade of being their oldest recruit.
Her favourite medium is oils but they are no good for using in the living room so she reverts to watercolours to satisfy the urge to be creative. She has been Chair of a thriving local art club intermittently for many years. Her other passion is writing having published two books, not about art, but they are about horses.
