Rebecca De Mendonca

Rebecca started drawing horses as a pony-mad little girl, and loves having like-minded friends in the SEA. After a varied career in the arts, she was thrilled when she moved to Devon 2011 and found horses within sight of her studio. Her equestrian work captures the life and energy of her subjects, ranging from thoroughbreds at her local racecourse, to Arabians, and the native ponies of Exmoor.

Training in Theatre Design started Rebeccas lifelong love of atmosphere and drama, which features in her equestrian work and landscapes. Pastels are her medium, allowing her to simultaneously combine drawing and painting; making marks with energy, fluidity and precision.

Portrait commissions range from dancers in English National Ballet to World-class event horses.

Her latest work focusses on the beautiful horses of the Camargue in Southern France, after her trip there in 2022.

Rebecca teaches pastel courses in the UK, Italy and online. Her book, Pastels for the Absolute Beginneris available now. Exhibitions include the Pastel Society, and Artists of the Year 2019, at the Mall Galleries, London.
