Well the dust has now settled on this year’s Horse in Art Exhibition for another year!
A beautiful exhibition of work of varied styles from contemporary to traditional was enjoyed by many over the two weeks. In particular we were encouraged to see a good display of sculpture by up and coming young artists, including a consignment of two lovely sculptures from Arizona in the USA  from J Ann Butler.

It was encouraging to see promising new work from Friend Members and the standard of work is increasing year on year. We are already excited to see what 2019 brings as it will be a special year for the SEA being our 40th Anniversary! Plans are already underway to make this a very special year.
A huge thanks go to the Team at Sally Mitchell Fine Art’s   for making this such a special event, there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to make an international art exhibition run smoothly. You can still see most of the work on the gallery website  at the moment.

We owe a great debt of thanks too to all of our generous sponsors for their continued support, and they are named below in the Awards list.

The Private View held on Sunday 16th was very well attended and we were honoured to welcome Carole Cuneo to open the exhibition. It was standing room only to listen to a very interesting and amusing talk by Carole , who is the daughter of Terence Cuneo (The Society’s very first President) her affection for her late father and the passion she has for his legacy of work was apparent to all.  We were all fascinated to have this insight in to life of a very well respected artist. Guests lingered to enjoy a very relaxed afternoon viewing the art and chatting over drinks and canapes.

CUNEO MEDAL
Jane Braithwaite SEA
A shocked and delighted Jane was presented with our top award which is  given for the most meritorious group of works by a full member and is voted for by full members present. She is one of our most recently promoted full members.

BEST IN SHOW
Sponsored by Denford Stud
Malcolm Coward Hon SEA for  his beautifully rendered piece in oils, ‘Loose Schooling’

BRITISH SPORTING ART TRUST AWARD
For the best sculpture, this is generously sponsored by BSAT was awarded to Amy Goodman SEA for her large bronze ‘Polo Pony (After Warhorse)’

CHAIRMAN’S AWARD
The choice of our Chairman Glynis Mills Hon SEA was Julie Ann Bull and was awarded for the best work by a Friend Member.

BANSTEAD MANOR STUD
For the best Sporting Picture very kindly sponsored by the stud and was awarded by Meg Taylor from Juddemonte for Jane Braithwaite’s impressive painting ‘Canal Turn’

BAILY’S HUNTING DIRECTORY AWARD
We were delighted to announce this is a brand new perpetual award for the best hunting picture and was presented by Peter Brooks of Baily’s to Robin Furness for his oil painting ‘The Bedale – Friar Ings’

THE ROBERT FOUNTAIN PRINT AWARD
For the best original print was chosen by Robert and awarded to Glynis Mills Hon SEA for her silkscreen print ‘Bear’

JOHN KING YOUNG ARTIST AWARD
The winner of this award was chosen at the Berkley Group Pony Club Championships and was given to Ela Owens of Conwy Community Riding Centre
