Biography

Jackie Henderson DipAD ATC Goldsmiths. UA SEA

We moved to Cornwall almost three years ago and feel healthier for it!! Both my husband and I are retired and enjoying a different pace of life.

The Duchy has so much to offer artists and so far I have mostly painted horses and ponies and only a small collection of landscapes and seascapes. Obviously Bodmin Moor with its moody weather systems and scattering of ponies amongst the tors has been a constant inspiration, but we also have polo matches on the beach at sunset, Clydesdales long distance riding from moor to sea, Dartmoor ponies grazing on National Trust coastland, The King’s Troop holidaying near beaches perfect for a morning gallop, and all that before the hunts, the point-to-points, the events and the Royal Cornwall Show, where, after spotting a touch of Royalty one can see heavy horses glittering by wearing their brassware and the Devil’s Horsemen entertaining the crowds with showy acrobatics, Oh, and all the cows and sheep which have also become top models in my art.

Talking of models I still have life drawing days with very professional models, all of whom go “wild swimming”, surfing or body boarding, so they have very fit bods!! I still maintain that the best art begins in the life room, a place for exploration and fun.

There is an open invitation to any SEA members who wish to come here and see my new studio. Cornwall might be at the extreme West of England but once here the air is intoxicating!
