Tony Hinchliffe
Biography
Just before I start my first brushstroke, I look quietly for a particular state of presence.
A place of honesty where fragile truths come and go floating through time, like whispers from other dimensions observing either side of anticipation without bias.
A balancing act that subtly leans towards and feeds off every extreme of emotion I have ever felt.
I look for a hopeful light in all my paintings. A nourishing light, with a raw sense of existence, a light that wouldn’t stand up without the brutal honesty of looking beyond learned behaviour and made up words – such things can interrupt the discomfort required to gain the emotional foresight to visualise and depict such dreams.
For me my painting is about depicting mood and intimacy within a moment to create a visual outcome that years later I can choose to look back on and recall everything I felt during its creation, a little like re reading a diary that never lies.
It is inevitable that time and fate will occasionally blur the edges of my endeavours, but it will never take that perfect painting from my dreams.
