Paul Thomas
Biography
I was born in London in 1960 and I’m currently living in West Sussex. I had a 50 year career of working with horses, to which in have now retired. In retirement I now have the time to focus on developing my love of art, which I came to late in life. I have no art related qualifications and have had no formal training, except attending demonstrations and one day workshops.
I have had a passion for horses ever since working in my fathers riding school in Kent at the age of 13. From there I spent 12 years as a riding instructor/horse trainer with the Household Calvary, then 27 years teaching equine subjects at a FE college. I have backed and trained hundreds of horses and competed in show jumping and eventing competitions. I had a talent for training horses and developed a real connection with them over the years. I now want to develop a talent in painting them.
Over the years I have developed my own style which keeps evolving. The mediums I prefer are watercolour, inks and acrylics. My artwork has evolved, as I’m experimenting more, I’m now using a pallet knife more than a brush. Most recently I am using mixed media and textiles to give texture and a more abstract effect to my paintings, which gives my equine subjects a new perspective.
I have recently started to exhibit locally through art societies with some success. I am on a new journey and my aim is to create interesting artwork which major galleries will exhibit.
