Jess Henrich

Biography

Born in Kenya and raised in Nairobi, riding in the Ngong Hills, Jess Henrich’s passion for horses began at just three years old when she had her first pony ride in Naivasha. Immersed in showjumping, eventing, and dressage, she proudly represented Kenya twice in international competitions. Her early bond with the horses of Kenya shaped not only her career as a horse physiotherapist but her future as an artist

After a decade playing polo across South Africa, Zambia, Nigeria, Ibiza, Italy, and the UK, Jess transitioned her profound understanding of equine form and motion from the saddle to the studio. Her training in equine physiotherapy gave her a unique insight into anatomy and movement, now masterfully captured in her paintings.

Working primarily in oil on fine linen and canvas, Jess specializes in large‑format, life‑size equine portraits that emphasize a horse’s grace, power, and spirit. Her minimalistic, realistic style strips away background distractions, allowing each horse to command the frame through its unique personality and presence.

Her evocative, archival-quality works are in high demand, held in private collections both locally in SA and internationally. These heirloom pieces serve as lasting tributes to legendary polo ponies and beloved equine companions, preserving their essence and the deep bond between horse and human.

Jess now lives and paints in Cape Town, offering collectors the opportunity to own beautifully crafted portraits or commission bespoke works. Each canvas is an homage to her lifelong relationship with horses—a visual celebration of their nobility and enduring spirit.
