Gwenda Jones

Biography

Gwenda Jones is a British sculptor who captures the essence of the horse in her work, drawing on her upbringing on the Oxfordshire Downs surrounded by racehorses and the inspiration of her own horses. Her sculptures are held in private collections across the UK and in Kentucky, USA, often regarded as the Horse Capital of the World, highlighting her strong equestrian appeal. Gwenda creates distinctive equine and figurative sculptures for both interior and exterior settings, using bold texture, colour, patina and layered form to explore strength, resilience, and the enduring bond between humans, animals and our environment.
Holding a BA (Hons) in Three-Dimensional Design, her work has been widely exhibited nationally, including London W1 galleries such as The Mall Galleries and in Marylebone, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA), and the Sculpture Lounge, Yorkshire. Her ceramic equine sculptures were recognised for her innovative interpretation of water-based media, receiving a Highly Commended at the RBSA International Watercolour Prize. A Finalist in the sculpture Category for the prestigious Woman in Art Prize 2025, reflect both her equestrian roots and her broader exploration of humanity’s connection to the natural world.
