Ashley Tolton
Biography
Ashley Tolton was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, but now lives in a small town in Eastern Oregon. She had somewhat of an unconventional journey into the art world, as she received her college degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Spanish. Then chose to pursue a career in professional show jumping, when a riding accident ultimately led her to change directions and get serious about her art career. She is relatively new to the scene, as this is only her second year of being a full-time artist. However, her great-grandfather, Alexander Phimister Proctor, and grandfather, Gifford Proctor, were both famous sculptors and continue to inspire much of her work today. Ashley is really excited about what the future has to bring as she experiments with new techniques and ideas and continues to push artistic boundaries.
My main medium is oil paint and I tend to lean towards a realistic or sometimes exaggerated realistic style. I love creating timeless pieces that can captivate your attention in any room. I aim to create art that evokes emotion and that draws you in so entirely, that it transports you to another place and moment in time altogether. My work tends to have a minimalistic quality to it, allowing the light and shadows, subtle color variations, and small details to be the star of the show.
Recently, I’ve begun to experiment with ink and resin art, as well as some sculpture. I’m thrilled to be adding this bit of experimentation into my daily practice. Realistic paintings will be here to stay, but every collection will now have an experimentation category to fulfil my need for play and exploration. Really, my artwork is an opportunity for me to express and share the things I see and love and to bring attention to the beauty in the small details.
