Nicky Bowden – Hipponi. Dedicated to Hippotherapy
“My submissions this year reflect my passion for the perfect combination of horses, physiotherapy and of helping young, disabled children in their quest to be able to lead a better and more fulfilling life.
“Hippotherapy, little known in the UK, is a physiotherapy treatment which uses the unique movement of the horse to stimulate movement patterns in disabled children. My pictures capture some magic moments from my sessions using my own specially trained ponies, and show the delight of the children as they undergo therapy.
“After starting art school I pursued a career in physiotherapy, which, after training in London and Oxford, took me to Hong Kong for three years, returning to set up and run my own private practice in London. After children I followed my second career as an animal portrait artist taking many commissions over the years. These were done in water colours and pastels, however in the last five years I have been using and developing my skills in oil paints. I have had three pictures previously exhibited at the SEA exhibition the Mall galleries in 2003 and 2005.”
