From early childhood I had an aptitude for drawing – my favourite subject being the horse. They ran through my head and heart and still do! However, after a career in pharmaceutical research I only took up painting before the birth of my fourth of five children and began a portrait business in 1997.
Using mainly photographic reference, I work my human and animal portraits in a variety of media: from ink, graphite and soft pastel on sandpaper for the crisp, ‘every whisker’ detail, to mixed media and oil pastel for a looser, but still accurate, more painterly effect. I also enjoy being creative with all sorts of mixed media to produce lively equine images for sale and exhibiting.
My work has been displayed in venues around Buckinghamshire and Berkshire for many years and I am a regular contributor to Obsidian Art’s annual ‘Horse in Art’ exhibition. I joined the SEA in 2009 and have had pictures selected for both the Mall Galleries and Newmarket.
