Ruth Buchanan SEA
“I have spent a lifetime (so far) learning to look. As a groom I spent many hours following horses so people often say I am obsessed with horse’s backsides, but I can say the bottoms are carefully observed and lovingly detailed. I draw what I see.”
Ruth works in watercolour, pastel or oils depending on the subject and regularly exhibits at Horse Trials such as Burghley and Bramham. Described as “An artist of great fluency and finesse, with an insider’s feel for the drama and detail of equestrian competition ” by ‘The Art of The Horse’ author John Fairly, Ruth’s work explores light, structure and movement through the equine form. She has a keen interest and continued study in anatomy and biomechanics.
Ruth lives, works and rides in Yorkshire. She undertakes commissions both in the UK and abroad and is protective of the confidentiality of her client list. Suffice to say it includes some famous and household names. Her website shows her original work and links to a publishing site that sells limited edition prints of her work.
