With a Lincolnshire farming background, Margaret grew up in harmony with country life and animals. Sent away to qualify at the Royal Masonic Hospital, London by parents who did not feel that Art School provided ‘a suitable profession for a young lady’, Margaret is self taught and has managed to combine her love of painting with career and family.
Her passion for horses and equestrian art developed when she became involved as owner and stable girl of her daughter’s show ponies. Whilst her daughter was competing at Agricultural Shows or Show Pony Qualifiers and Championships, Margaret would usually be found with her sketch book beside one of the rings or in the stable block. Many horse and pony commissions followed from her many years involvement with the Pony Club, BSPS and Ponies UK.
Margaret is an Associate Member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Newmarket Art Group.
With early retirement and children at university and beyond, Margaret moved to South West France in 1997. In the Charente Maritime she has been able to concentrate on her painting and continues to develop her style and interests. She now paints mainly with pastel and whenever possible seeks out the french horse both in its natural surroundings and in competition.
Margaret holds annual one-woman exhibitions in SW France and was invited to exhibit at the Eglise Madeleine, Paris for the month of May 2000. Her paintings are in permanent displays in the Charente Maritime and in private collections in England, France and America.
