We are delighted to announce that the ‘Horse in Art’ Exhibition will be at Weston Park in Shropshire, from 31st August to 1st October. So put the date in your diary, and for all of you equestrian artists and sculptors, it is time to get planning your work to submit!

We exhibited at Weston Park two years ago, and are very much looking forward to returning. It is a beautiful venue, and easy to access from many parts of the country.

Originally built in 1767, the Rose Paterson Art Gallery was unused for many years before becoming the subject of a total and most sympathetic restoration, thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Now set beneath a splendidly characterful old beamed roof, it is a wonderful exhibition space. It is in the same building as the Granary Brasserie, so visitors to the exhibition can have a great day out including a visit to the house and gardens (check the Weston Park website for opening times).

YOU WILL NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE SEA TO SUBMIT WORK, BUT IT IS ONLY £30 TO JOIN, WITH THE BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP INCLUDE NOT JUST THE CHANCE TO EXHIBIT, BUT ALSO WORKSHOPS TO ATTEND AROUND THE COUNTRY, AND OPPORTUNITIES TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK.

Exhibitions

The SEA holds exhibitions throughout the UK. Our exhibitions are hosted by galleries and museums. Recent shows have been held at Sally Mitchell’s gallery and Museum of the Horse in Tuxford and Weston Park in Shifnal, Shropshire.

Since its inception, the Society’s principal exhibition for members’ paintings and sculpture has been the Annual Exhibition. As part of an ongoing renewal process in order to progress the Society as THE centre of excellence for equestrian art, it became an Open Exhibition in 2010 called ‘Horse in Art’, welcoming entries from members and non-members alike from all around the world.

Events & Activities

The Society runs regular workshops throughout the year at different equestrian establishments throughout the UK and sometimes Ireland and is always willing to consider venues further afield. For over thirty years we have organised a week long residential workshop in the South West of England where up to thirty SEA members of all levels have enjoyed seven days of tutored painting of the horse from life. Day and weekend workshops are also very popular and vary in subject matter from heavy horses to racehorses, donkeys to Arabs, racetracks to Victorian stables. The variety is endless.

Many of our members have gained lifelong friends through the society. We have a variety of activities to offer for supporters,* members, artists, young people and anyone else who likes to visit our exhibitions or get involved with the SEA.

Details of our current and forthcoming exhibitions and workshops can be found above. We like to support our member artists and here you can also find information about their individual exhibitions, previews, artist workshops and education sessions.
